Nifty turns positive; Infy, Bharti, BHEL, HUL, HDFC Bk lead

At 14:47 hours IST, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading with modest gains amid volatility. Heavyweights Reliance IndustriesState Bank of India and ICICI Bank were seeing some buying at lower levels and were marginally in the red.

Capital goods space was also positive. Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Reliance Power (up 4%), HDFC Bank, DLF, Idea (up 3%), Jindal Steel, Cairn, HUL, Hindalco, Cipla, Hero Honda and Sun Pharma strengthened further.

However, Tata Motors, ONGC, HDFC, Wipro, Maruti, Tata Steel, ACC, NTPC, TCS, BPCL, Sterlite, ABB, Reliance Communications, Ambuja Cements and Ranbaxy were the losers in trade.

Cabinet deferred decision on SAIL divestment. The stock was flat.

The Sensex was trading at 17513, up 62 points and the Nifty was at 5247, up 21 points. The Nifty April future was trading with 8-9 points premium.

In the midcap space, Mcleod Russel, Gujarat NRE Coke, Engineers India, Nirma and CMC gained 4.5-8% while AstraZeneca, REI Six Ten, MVL, United Phosphorous and Nagarjuna Construction fell 2.4-3.3%.

In the smallcap space, Panacea Biotec, Cholamandalam, Natco Pharma, Piramal Glass and Harrisons Mal were up 8-13% while aurionPro Solutions, Sonata, Maharashtra Scooters, Subhkam Capital and Indian Metals slipped 5-5.6%.

Top gainers on the BSE Midcap – Nirma, Ruchi Soya, Gujarat Flourochem, CMC and Wockhardt gained 4-5.8%.

Top losers on the BSE Midcap – United Phosphorous, Nagarjuna Construction, Triveni Engg, IVRCL Infrastructure and Allcargo Global fell 2.2-2.7%.

Top gainers on the BSE Smallcap – Panacea Biotec rose 15.89%. Natco Pharma, Cholamandalam, Piramal Glass and Ankur Drugs were up 8-14%.

Top losers on the BSE Smallcap – Sonata, Maharashtra Scooters, Gee Kay Finance, aurionPro Solutions and Gemini Comm lost 5% each.
